We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Takatoshi Ito, a distinguished economist. He served as an editorial advisor to the Asian Economic Journal and was a frequent contributor to the EAEA Conventions as a keynote speaker and in other capacities. After earning his Ph.D. from Harvard University, he taught at the University of Minnesota, Hitotsubashi University, the University of Tokyo, and Columbia University. He also served as Senior Advisor in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund and as Deputy Vice Minister for International Affairs at Japan’s Ministry of Finance. Professor Ito’s research spanned a wide range of fields, including macroeconomics, monetary economics, and international finance. He was the author of The Japanese Economy and numerous other books and refereed journal articles. He will be remembered for his warmth, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to research and to nurturing the next generation of scholars and policymakers. His loss is felt profoundly, but his legacy of scholarship and kindness will endure. 10/2/2025
